EZRIEL KORNEL, M.D. NAMED PRESIDENT OF THE NEW YORK STATE NEUROSURGICAL SOCIETY
Ezriel Kornel, M.D. has recently been installed as president of the New York State Neurosurgical Society for a two-year term. The Society represents the interests of all neurosurgeons in the state, both in regard to socio-political issues as well as general clinical and scientific issues.
Dr. Kornel is a neurosurgeon in private practice with the Neurosurgeons of New York, White Plains, NY, which is one of the largest neurosurgical groups in the New York metropolitan area. The group specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with injury to or diseases of the brain, spine, and peripheral nerves. Dr. Kornel also serves as Director of the Institute for Neurosciences at Northern Westchester Hospital Center, the first of its kind in the area to open a Center for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery. In addition to being an Attending Neurosurgeon at Northern Westchester Hospital, he is on the staff at various institutions including White Plains Hospital, White Plains, NY; Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville, NY; and Roosevelt Hospital, New York, NY.
After receiving his undergraduate degree at Cornell University, Dr. Kornel completed his medical education at Rush University in Chicago and received his neurological training at George Washington University Hospital. Minimally-Invasive Neurosurgery is an area of particular interest to Dr. Kornel.
Dr. Kornel is actively involved with several professional organizations and societies. He is on the board of directors of the Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company and is a founding board member of Gilda?s Club. Dr. Kornel is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgery, and Westchester County Medical Society.
His current academic appointments include Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery, Yale University, New Haven, CT, Dept. of Neurosurgery and Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Surgery, New York Medical College. He previously taught at Montefiore Hospital, Metropolitan Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Kornel?s research findings have been published in medical journals, and he has given numerous lectures on neurosurgical topics throughout the U.S. He has been board certified since 1987.
Born in Jerusalem, Israel, Dr. Kornel currently resides in Bedford, NY with his fifteen-year-old daughter, nineteen-year-old son, who attends Boston University, and their four dogs. His other interests include playing the violin, acting, poetry and motorcycling.
