Dulles, VA August, 2003 — Baby boomers, who comprise 30% of the population, are entering middle age and beyond and are determined to stay young. The annual number of laser skin resurfacing procedures more than doubled from 140,000 in 1996 to 300,000 in 2000; the number of chemical peels performed annually rose 114%; Botox injections for wrinkles increased 216%. As our population ages, yet requires an ever-youthful appearance, David Goldberg, a leading authority on anti-aging skin care for the last decade, demonstrates how to maintain this appearance in his new book “Light Years Younger.”
In “Light Years Younger” dermatologist and laser-skin specialist David J. Goldberg provides an in-depth discussion of many of the new anti-aging skin care treatments, providing readers the information they need to make informed choices. The changes that are happening in this field such as light-based treatments for reducing photo-aging, new, minimally invasive lasers which many actually prevent wrinkles by stimulating the formation of new collagen, and the recent availability of well-researched anti-wrinkle creams, and more are all covered in detail. Light Years Younger is one of the first books to offer a more narrowly targeted introduction to the numerous non-invasive, anti-aging techniques that have emerged within the last two decades.
A board-certified dermatologist, David Goldberg is particularly known, both nationally and internationally, for his work with skin lasers. He has performed numerous pioneering research studies on laser procedure and has taught doctors throughout the world in the use of this groundbreaking technology.

Washington, DC August, 2003 — A study published in September?s issue of Dermatologic Surgery concludes women?s breasts can naturally enlarge from one to two cup sizes following the efficient removal of fat in other areas of the body using tumescent liposuction. Eric Finzi, MD, PhD, a board certified dermatologic surgeon with a specialty in tumescent liposuction, conducted the study after a number of patients returned to his office for their post-operative exam with the unexpected result from the body liposculpture procedure.
The Finzi study found that significant breast enhancement occurred in 43% of female patients who underwent one or more tumescent liposuction surgeries. Heavier patients who received more total fat removal were more likely to experience breast enlargement. Dr. Finzi concludes that the tumescent technique, combined with the high efficiency of microcannula fat removal, may have contributed to the increased frequency of breast enhancement.
?This is the first step in the development of natural breast enlargement,? stated Dr. Finzi, who has performed tumescent liposuction surgery on thousands of patients to remove fat in areas of the body where diet and exercise were ineffective.
Since it?s inception in 1987, tumescent liposuction by local anesthesia has become a major cosmetic treatment for body sculpting by dermatologic surgeons. With tumescent liposuction?s superior safety record, and ability to remove fat in unwanted areas without surgical scarring, women may now also benefit with a natural increase in breast size. To date, implant surgery has been the only effective technique for breast enlargement.
At least one to two million women in the US ? more than 230,000 in 2002 alone ? have undergone breast implant augmentation to ?measure up? to society?s current focus on body image and larger bust sizes. In spite of its popularity, breast augmentation surgery continues to have frequent complications such as implant rupture, hardening of the breasts, changes in breast sensation, calcifications, and scarring.
Dermatologic Surgery is the official publication of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS). Published since 1975, this peer-reviewed, professional journal has been the main source of countless landmark articles on new research and clinical advances in cosmetic, therapeutic, and reconstructive dermatologic surgery. Dr. William Coleman III of Metairie, Louisiana, serves as Editor-in-Chief.

No commentsDallas Cosmetic Surgeon Participates in First National Education Faculty (NEF) Meeting for Advanced Uses of BOTOX? Cosmetic
March 4, 2004 — Dallas Facial Cosmetic Surgeon, Jeffrey Adelglass, MD was one of a small group of doctors selected to participate in Allergan?s first National Education Faculty (NEF) meeting, whose members are composed of doctors nationwide that teach others the safest and latest techniques of administering BOTOX? Cosmetic. Allergan selected the members of the education faculty based on experience with administering BOTOX? Cosmetic, their desire to educate others, demonstration of leadership qualities, and a demonstrated knowledge of facial aesthetics.
The meeting educated the elite group of doctors on newest uses of BOTOX? Cosmetic and Restylane.
Until recently, the use of BOTOX? Cosmetic was encouraged for use in the upper part of the face (i.e. crow?s feet, forehead). Now, Allergan is introducing new techniques for using BOTOX? Cosmetic in the lower part of the face (i.e. lip lines, mouth frown lines and neck bands). The formula for maximized results includes the use of BOTOX? Cosmetic to relax the wrinkle, and then fill the surface void with a filler such as Restylane. The combination of Restylane and BOTOX? Cosmetic offers great synergy with long lasting results. When administered by a physician trained in the art and skill of non-invasive cosmetic procedures, favorable results of BOTOX? Cosmetic and Restylane are increased. Experience counts when you want to get THE LOOK.
Dr. Adelgass has administered BOTOX? Cosmetic for many years and works with patients everyday who want to look younger by smoothing away wrinkles. ?After consulting with patients about their anti-aging concerns, I prescribe a clinical skin care program for maximum results. Often, we utilize a combination of fillers and BOTOX? Cosmetic, to help sculpt and revitalize the face and brow.?
For more information on skin age management, Restylane or BOTOX? Cosmetic, visit www.skintastic.com, or for a complimentary consultation call 972-620-FACE (3223). Leading Cosmetic Surgeon Offers Newly FDA-Approved Sculptra - the “Liquid Facelift”
Austin, TX August 26, 2004 — Westlake Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery announced today the addition of Sculptra to the procedures it offers. Dr. Gregory Nikolaidis is one of approximately 70 physicians nationwide selected and trained by Aventis Pharmaceuticals in use of this revolutionary new product/procedure. Nikolaidis recently spent three days in Chicago and one week in Germany training with world-renown cosmetic surgeons and representatives from Aventis in the use of what medical professionals and beauty experts are billing as the ?liquid facelift.?
Sculptra works by both filling in lines and wrinkles and by stimulating the body to produce new collagen and underlying tissue, thereby creating a fuller, more youthful appearance.
?This product will transform the field of cosmetic surgery,? said Nikolaidis. ?Unlike other fillers, such as Restylane and Cosmoplast, which last only a few months, Sculptra?s effects last up to two years or more.?
Sculptra is marketed under the trade name NEW-FILL? in Europe, where it has been used since 1999 as a wrinkle-filling product. It has been used by an estimated 100,000 people in more than 30 countries throughout Europe and South America to treat facial volume imperfections, including signs of aging, such as wrinkles, folds, dark circles and sunken cheeks.
?Facial lipoatrophy is a condition that results in loss of fat in the cheeks, temples and eye sockets. The sunken cheeks, hollow eyes, indentations and wrinkling may make a person appear exhausted and unhealthy,? said Dr. Sharon Levy, Senior Director of Scientific & Medical Affairs for Dermik Laboratories, the United States arm of Aventis Pharmaceuticals. Sculptra is the first truly effective product/procedure designed to alleviate this condition.
